What opportunities or experiences are students being given to
apply their maths skills in real world contexts? Background: In T 1 We decided to investigate whether our classes were still predominately teacher-centred and whether opportunities for authentic maths problem solving task were occurring on as regular basis as we believed would make a real difference for transference of skills, deep understanding of content and fluency. Our instructional round in Term 1 led us to believe that we needed to find more ways to engage children in authentic maths tasks connected to real world experiences so they could apply their skills in context and make maths more meaningful. Teachers investigated PBL as a pedagogical approach and decided to create projects with students that would involve hands on real world maths tasks. T2 Instructional Round will be investigating how successful we have been in increasing opportunities for students to make connections and apply their maths skills.
