Lesson Objective
- to gather evidence about student ability in an area of number and to use this data to place students on the numeracy continuum.
- to develop an understanding of assessment as learning.

Professional Reading Discussion Summary
* I already knew this *
-start with a positive
-needed to be explicit and reflect the learning goal
-do not point out every weakness
-timely manner
individualised
-language and form is appropriate
+ New information +
-break the feedback/process in steps (strengths, questions, next steps)
-seven practices
-six traits of writing model
-never write more than the student writes
! WOW !
-break it into three chuncks
-relate to the target, do not detour
-GPS analogy
strengths, questions, next steps
-give them one thing to focus on
-practical applications (charts, sticky notes etc.)
-rotating basis
-a final product should have a different comment to a ongoing piece of work
?? I don't understand ??
-
The Numeracy Continuum
Task: watch the video of students engaged in a numeracy lesson and record evidence of their learning in number on post-it notes (ie. student was able to use the compensation method to solve a two digit algorithm.)
Using the gathered data, plot the student on the Numeracy Continuum.
Lesson Study
With your lesson study partner, plan a lesson where each party can assist in making judgements about student ability in an aspect of number. Using this evidence place them on the Numeracy Continuum and plan a subsequent lesson to address the area of need.
