Key ideas from the reading:
Key ideas from the reading:
- Research is showing how intrinsic motivation is more effective than extrinsic
- This refers to adults as well as students
- People will generally be more successful than if being motivated extrinsically.
- If it were skills you wanted the students to carry - if you put a reward to this it can undermine the learning
- At CPS we do not focus on extrinsic motivation across the school
- If this is inconsistent it can make things fall apart across the school - if they are not used to it then it is not something that students will miss
- Extrinsic incentives can be very time consuming
- PBL is one way we engage students without needing external validation
- Staff work to ensure lessons are engaging
- Not using praise for the sake of praise but using it to inform learning (feedback)
- Whole class goals that the whole class works towards together are used at times
- Moving forward - showing / sharing what it can look like without these processes in the classroom.
