Why it matters Some professionals, such as doctors or lawyers, have the benefit of seeing their peers in action as part of their day-to-day environments, and can see first-hand what works. Teachers, however, need to work harder than many to break down the potential ‘silo effect’ and ensure that best practice is identified and shared across classrooms. This is important because high-quality collaborative practice, which harnesses the expertise of the collective, is critical to improving teacher quality and student outcomes (Grattan Institute 2020; Reeves, Pun & Chung 2017; Ronfeldt et al. 2015; Sharratt & Planche 2016).
Teacher reflections from the WWB Collaboration PL highlighted an interest in visiting other classrooms and observing how lessons were implemented. Due to this and to support the mathematics project we will trial the lesson study approach in Terms 3 and 4.
